Local Hive Honey

Here is how it’s made.

The Client

The Problem

Local Hive bottles two dozen local honeys and makes them available everywhere in the US.

Most people just think “honey is honey.” We had our work cut out for us showing how Local Hive is both better tasting and better for American beekeepers.

Chasing Gold

We followed Cameron, a California beekeeper, 400 miles from L.A. to San Fran to show the lengths Local Hive’s beekeepers go to in order to produce unique local honey. I also wrote about our experience for Local Hive.

Honey Queen

We featured the 2020 American Honey Queen in a series of videos about what makes local honey so special, from how it’s made to how it tastes. I wrote, directed talent, and wore a beekeepers’ suit in July. In Texas.

Social Content

I helped create a lot (a lot) of social (paid and organic) for Local Hive from 2020–24,
growing the brand’s social following by tens of thousands and generating exceptional
engagement rates and conversion. These are a few favorites. See all of ‘em here.

Web & eCommerce

We launched Let’s Grow: a program to give out pollinator-friendly seed packets nationwide to help save the bees.

We won a Webby for the updated site in 2020, and
Best in Show at the Dallas ADDYs for the original launch in 2018. (And many more ADDYs along the way.)

We created an interactive Honey Finder. I tasted, categorized, wrote questions, and helped design the UX.

eComm Site

We designed and launched Local Hive’s DTC site in 2021. We supported it with paid social, email, SMS, digital ads, and influencer campaigns. What I learned: Open with a great story. Close with a great offer.

I wrote Local Hive’s blog from 2018–24, the foundation of our SEO strategy that grew the brand’s online presence from nothing to category leader. What I learned: SEO doesn’t dictate what you write – it tells you what your audience already knows.
